Every summer, Les Rencontres d’Arles shift the centre of gravity of photography. For a few weeks, exhibitions, workshops, screenings and encounters bring works out of books, collections, screens and studios, placing them within a shared space of looking, discussion and circulation.
On the occasion of the 2026 edition of Les Rencontres d’Arles, The Darkroom Rumour presents a selection of films echoing the festival’s programme. Five films extend, through the platform, the presence in Arles of major figures in contemporary photography: Harry Gruyaert, Anne-Lise Broyer, Jane Evelyn Atwood, Antoine d’Agata and Martin Bogren.
Present in Arles through exhibitions or workshops, these photographers each develop a singular relationship to the image. Colour and composition in Harry Gruyaert’s work, the memory of places in Anne-Lise Broyer’s, documentary immersion in Jane Evelyn Atwood’s, the physical and existential experience of reality in Antoine d’Agata’s, and the construction of a personal photographic language in Martin Bogren’s all offer distinct ways of questioning what photography can do.
The films gathered here accompany the gestures, voices, methods and paths that precede or extend the image. Conceived as a continuation of the Arles programme, this focus invites viewers to explore the films of The Darkroom Rumour as sensitive counterpoints to the 2026 edition of Les Rencontres d’Arles.
